The Pittsburgh Penguins face the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final Saturday night at the Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit is 6-4 in the past 10 meetings with Pittsburgh. The teams have never met in the NHL Playoffs, and haven’t squared off since Oct. 7, 2006, when Detroit blanked Pittsburgh 2-0 on the road.

In the conference finals, Detroit advanced to the Cup final with a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference final Monday night in Dallas, winning the best-of-seven series 4-2. Pittsburgh blew out the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0 in Game 5 on Sunday to win the Eastern Conference championship 4-1.

Detroit goal-scoring leader Johan Franzen, who hasn't played since Game 1 of the conference final due to a concussion, has been practicing with the team, but has been ruled out of playing in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final.

Pittsburgh is 12-2 SU in its past 14 and 4-2 SU in its past six on the road, but 1-5 SU in its past six against Detroit and 2-5-1 SU in its past eight in Detroit.

The Red Wings are 10-2 SU in their past 12, and 10-1 SU in their past 11 at home. The total has gone under in six of the past eight meetings in Detroit.
